Clown'N Around, Circus Inspired Digital Scrapbooking Kit and Templates from The Cherry On Top

Welcome to The Cherry On Top.

In these most serious of times it is essential that we take a step back and remember that a dose of humor is beneficial to our mental health.  If current times are giving you nothing to laugh about, then think back and remind yourself of the funny moments in your life.  Sometimes, it happens that things are so overwhelmingly...overwhelming that it takes a few moments to realize that it's actually pretty funny or even hilarious.

For example, I was showering and my two year old was running around the upstairs on the loose.  When I came out of the shower, I found him running around the hallways and bedrooms stamping poop everywhere.  He'd run back to his diaper, stamp all in the poop then run around leaving poopy foot prints everywhere and of course the walls were not to escape this fecal massacre!  Can you just imagine?!  There I stood all squeaky clean looking at the most disgusting sight I've ever seen in my life!  The incredulity struck first.  Then anger and then as time lapsed ever so slowly, the hilarity struck me.  I didn't even know where to start and I laughed and laughed and showed my kid how to clean up.

Pardon me for going a bit off topic, but it seems like a great introduction to what's new in the shop this week as well as a means to allow you to escape.  Run away to the three ring circus that is my life and forget your current worries if not just for a bit.

 Clown'N Around Kit

I designed two packs of circus themed templates.  The second will be out next week.  Many of my team said they didn't have circus goodies and we found there really were not too many out there.  I also found them all to be quite juvenile so I composed a more grown up kit full of really fabulous flowers and a dark, dramatic color palette with a touch of vintage and a warm, inviting gold accent.

Keep scrolling to see just what pretty pages you can design with our Clown'n Around kit and templates.

 Clown'N Around Templates

You can go with a vintage feel, family fun vibe or macabre.  These would be a great starting point for some kind of mixed media design, too.  Get creative and have fun!

 Clown'N Around Kit

I want to walk you through my first page.  As you can see I pulled out only a few of the colors.  For one, my picture has a lot of the opposite colors in it.  A bit cringe, but I just had to use this picture so I pulled out the purple and yellow/gold from the picture and the same for the majority of my design.  Black goes with just about everything so I was ok there, too.  This way my photo doesn't stick out all that much.

I added some puffy styles to my wagon and customized the banner.  One huge cluster to show off all of the gorgeous flowers and greenery, a grunge edge, also included in the kit and a touch of scatter.  Not all that much really, right?  The star bust paper seems most fitting for the theme.

 Clown'N Around Kit

I've always been a sucker for star or sunburst styled templates and I've given you them as well as in the papers in the kit.  There are so many layers on the papers.  Take a good look!  They are texture rich and I've included a lot of the colors from the kit in them.  As a CT myself, I think these kinds of papers are essential in a kit.  It helps bring everything together.

For my page above, I even added an extra stroke in my sunburst template for more cohesion.  A stroke is sometimes all you need to help bring your page together.  That's the little guy who covered the second floor in his poop.

 Clown'N Around Kit

As you can see, I've no circus pictures.  I'm not a fan of the circus for so many reasons. Besides, our life provides more than enough entertainment.  I went very experimental with this kit.  Trying my hand at all kinds of new techniques.  The clown is pretty much all mine as is the tent and the wagon.

 Clown'N Around Templates

I couldn't resist a chance to work with Lou's kit, again.  Such great colors and nifty unique elements.  I did add an antique style to most of the layers.  I also took some texture, added the pretty gold over it and placed it over the top of my design for something different.  It gives it a neat, texture rich, aged feel.  I also put some paint over my background paper to make it all blend a bit more. Some dark shadows gives it an almost ominous feel.  Cool, eh? That's my lovely kitty, Pluisje.

Here are some pages from my awesome team.

If you look carefully at our pages, you'll see that most of them didn't mix the whimsical goodies with the realistic ones.  This isn't a rule by any means.  I tried mixing them and wasn't thrilled with the result, but you can pull it off.

There were such a great variety of usages with today's new products.  I'm sure there is something that fits you just perfectly.

Moving on to other new kits and collections from other designers.

Our gal Aimee has designed a collection that is close to my heart.  Our gorgeous planet!  It has a nice hippy, recycle, take care of the place which we live, keep it nice for future generations and appreciate the beauty that is still left.

As soon as I saw the globe, I knew what templates I needed.  Such great colors of earth's beauty.  I went a bit traditional with my page and just a touch of artsy by using Aimee's edges over and over again, just scaled back with each new introduction.  I got this pic from FB in one of the Mosel River groups I'm in.  There is an amazing photographer there.  This is actually taken right across the street from my place.

Tutorial on How to Scrap Fast With Just a Few Items

Welcome to The Cherry On Top.

If scrapbooking is one of those hobbies where you just can't seem to find the time.  Then you have to do some rescheduling!  Hehehe...How about if I told you, from start to finish, you can design a full page in under 15 minutes?  How about in under 10 minutes?!  Now don't even tell me you don't have 10 minutes!  5. minutes?!

Let me share with you some tips on how to scrap really fast and beautifully and I'll share a video link where we scrap a page in under 5 minutes with free goodies!

Let me walk you through a few pages and explain the process.

Keeping your page simple is an obvious way to save time.  Just over a couple of elements, only 2 papers and some artistic touches and you're done.

Twitterpated from Just So Scrappy

Get your background in there, maybe add an edge from the collection like you see here from Aimee Harrison.  Without the edge, my page was just a touch plain to me.  Clip in your pictures to some pretty frames, focus most of your time on a nice cluster, then copy, paste a few of the items from that cluster and start a new cluster someone where else on the page.  Use a bit of paint here and there to give it cohesion and you've scrapped!

Really take a peep, here.  A few of Aimee's fun edges, cute word art, a few strategically placed ellies and a tiny pic.  Anchor your clusters with some paint and if you've time to spare, add some thoughtful journaling.  Let your favorite papers take the stage!

Carnival from Aimee and Just Because Studio

Huge framed pictures can take up a lot of space and only a little time.  Go big on those elements in your cluster and you can have a great page in under 10 minutes.

Of course, templates can be an awesome time saver.  Not only is the entire page laid out for you up to the shadows, but you don't even have to think or plan what kind of layout you want to design.  Again, large frame, cute picture, a few embellishments, an edge...done!

This is actually a card I made for a neighbor boy who takes care of my girls when I'm away for an extended period of time.  Look at it basically, with me.  A background paper, two, thin frames with a paper cropped over, an alpha from the same kit, and some grass, chicks and chickens from Lou's kit.  Seriously, this was made under 5 minutes, printed out and brought over to my neighbor along with 10 Euros and a Toblerone.  Hehehe...

This is a template, Choose Joy from us.  All I did was merge all of the bottom /mat layers. *Be sure to first, copy the layer style, then delete style then merge and paste the style, again.  Otherwise, ya get a funky haze around your ellies.  Then do the same for the "photo" layer, crop in your one large image, your small, corner image, all framed up and design 2 very simple clusters using mostly the same elements to not only save time, but make your page more cohesive.

This page was hugely loved in one of the traditional groups I'm in.

Coastal Wanderer from Kim Cameron (Now retired)

Again, I'm showing off one of our templates that once you get exactly the paper choice you want, will save a lot of time.  Hehehe...It did take me some time to choose just the right papers and I still added a stroke around the circles for more cohesion.

The cirlcles on the templates are so huge, they take up a majority of the page, so once you clip in your papers to them, you're more than half way finished.  The enormous picture is taking up a lot of space. The only bit that needed finishing was adding Aimee's fun frogs, her word art and really just a few of the same elements with an ending touch of a sprinkling of bead scatter.

Most templates come with outlines/strokes and shadows so ya don't even have to do that!

Round N' Round Templates from TCOT and Frog'n Around from Aimee

I've mentioned the several times on the blog before and I'll say it yet again.  Yes!  You sure can use our templates as quick pages.  Many of customers do this and feel none the guilty for so doing.  This is our With Love templates and family picture cropped in.  Obviously, done in mere seconds!

Now, if you did have, let's say...3 minutes to scrap a page, you could take the above process just a touch further by simply adding a "style" to the layers.  I used some texture styles from SnickerDoodle Designs to our A New Start.

A New Start with texture styles.

If you want to watch me scrap a page in 2 minutes then take it a touch further in just 3 more, check out our newest video, here.

New video how to scrap fast! Really fast!

Just in case you are interested, I have another blog on how to scrap fast and there I include traditional scrapbooking resources, too!

I'll definitely be coming back with more blogs like this one.  Nothing like learning all kinds of tips and tricks to not only become a better scrapper, but a more efficient one as well.

Floral Spring Hybrid Tote Bag Idea From Clever Monkey Graphics and The Cherry On Top

Welcome to The Cherry On Top.

Enjoy another fun filled blog of scrap-a-liciousness in the form of hybrid and digital scrapbooking, today.  I've got more fabulous goodies from my own shop at Gingerscraps as well as beautiful kits from some of your favorite designers at the Sweet Shoppe.

If you've been following us for awhile, you know that I love color so much.  Especially, bright POW! In your face kinds of colors, which makes me a great match up with Tracey from Clever Monkey Graphics.  You can bet your pretty little butt that I fell head over heels in love with the colors and theme of this Little Shark collection.  How adorable?!   I had just the perfect subject, too!  My JJ is not a huge fan of water, but once he gets good and in there he's good to go.  It took him a really long time to learn how to swim and he struggles a bit, like a lot of kids.  Especially, those with Autism.  Stick with'm and make sure they understand the importance of learning to swim and swim well.

These templates are from GingerScraps Buffet for March and that means they are only $2.  I keep my buffet goodies at $2 for the entire month, but don't let that throw you off from buying now.  You might forget!

You are going to have a blast in Tracey's shop.  There are so many new things to look at.  Butterfly Season is a brand new kit and it is impatiently waiting for you.  I LOVE butterflies so much.  We have butterfly bushes at both of our places.  They are a huge attraction to the local insects.  We never use any kind of chemicals in our yards and gardens so wildlife is in abundance and bees and butterflies are no exception.  I've seen at least half a dozen varieties.  I've got two pictured here.  There are two new comers, but I'm yet to get a picture. One is a rather dainty fellow, mostly off white with a bit of orange at the tips of his wings.  I believe he's a Tiger Butterfly.  I'll try my luck again this summer and see if I can get him on camera.  There's also a tiny bluish purple one.  It could be a moth.  I have to brush up on these new visitors.

I added two extra layers to the top of Tracey's gorgeous black and white paper and used the pen in PSE to color over the lines.  Then I just clipped in some glitter paper using styles.  That's how I got that one flower with color.  Next time I do this, I'll make a video showing you how it's done.

Keep your eyes out for a FREEBIE that coordinates with this, at Sweet Shoppe! They have a page with a free sample from each designer.  This way you can try before you buy and they update yearly.  There are 23 free samples!

Also in Tracey's shop this weekend, you'll find Rawr!  A super cute and fun Dino inspired collection. I used our brand new templates, In Perspective for these.  It's a totally different way to scrap. I've got a lot more page inspiration with these on yesterday's blog as well as tips and optional, alternative uses that are included in the templates, but not shown.

JJ loved his Dino so much and of course he lost it because he took it with him absolutely everywhere. I had bought a back up, but you know how that goes!  Hehehe...

Also new in the Sweet Shoppe this week is JoCee Designs, Through The Stones kit.  Any Outlander fans out there?  I bought through book 5 and I've been stuck on the fourth one for awhile.  I'm still waiting for something to happen and I'm in over 300 pages!  Claire drove me nuts the first book.  I loved the second one and the third one was quite the adventure.  It all started when my hubs and I stumbled across the show whilst going through the channels on a local TV sender.  We loved it from the very start, but have stopped watching because I want to read all of the books, first.  Between us, it's really only pay backs.  He did the same darn thing to me for Game Of Thrones and he reads SO slow!

Through The Stones from JoCee Designs

You don't have to be a fan of Sharon's boos or the TV program to fall in love with Jo's kit.  The classic, luxurious colors are beyond fabulous and look at all of those thoughtful elements, too.  Gems, maps, ships, sword, plaid flowers...take your hot, long romance to your scrap page as I did.  Of course, it doesn't have to be a scorching one.  Hehehe...Pictures of castles, old buildings or artifacts would look great as well.  Of course, if you've been to Scotland, this would be an awesome kit to scrap that.

 Through The Stones

Last week, I showed off how you can use Tracey's journal cards and papers and make a pretty coordinating set of envelope and card.  I also provided a few links to free templates for envelopes if you need them.

Simply resize, print, cut and...

 Spring Floral

This was my page I designed with Spring Floral and my little JJ.  Of course, he is as tall as I am, now.

 Spring Floral

Today's hybrid project is WAY cool!  You're going to love it!

I simply removed the background and ditched the shadows on those un-layered, outside elements as you can see on my tiny image.

I did change up my page ever so slightly by removing my photograph and adding another pretty card.
Keep scrolling to see what I did with it!

Take your hybrid with you or even use your hybrid project to tote your other hybrid projects.

Yes!  Of course this is totally doable and all you need is some transferable paper, a printer, an iron and whatever you want your design to go on like a t-shirt or bag.  I found this quick video from the Hobby Lobby with some tips and instructions.  It's really easy!

If you don't think the glittery paint in the background will come out great, you can always do the real deal on your bag.  Just make sure you choose fabric friendly paint and glitter paint.  I haven't tried, but I might caution that it may be a bit trifling to iron over your paint and or glitter paint so do a test, first!

Take your digital scrapbooking skills to another level and go hybrid.

Thanks so much for popping over to The Cherry.  I invite you to scroll through previous blogs, grab the countless freebies and consider joining us across our social hot spots like FB via page and fun group, Instagram, Pinterest and keep up to date by joining our weekly newsletter family.

Happy scrapping!
