Big Scrapbooking Sale, Travel Themed Templates and Layout Love

Welcome to The Cherry On Top.

Days are finally cooling down, but we're keeping things hot in DigiLand.  We've got so much going on, pretty much all of the time and this week is no exception.  Read through to see what we've designed for the GingerScraps shop this week, check out the gorgeous pages from the team, pick up some tips and tricks, get a recap of last week's amazing FREE collection, find out about our huge kit sale and get our new freebie.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Do not take template or kits so literal.  Usually a designer needs some kind of theme to get the design process started and keep it steady, but we often consider creating so that a lot of people can use it.  Typically, there are only a few theme pieces and all of the rest is left very general.

Here was my take on it.  I made a process video, but it'll take forever to upload.  I used styles and texture and a bright pretty kit from the Sweet Shoppe.  I think this template is rather challenging, but keep reading to get other tips on how to use it. I also made a process video using this page.  Check it out on our You Tube Channel along with dozens of other instructional videos.

Sweet Shoppe Designs

This first page from Caro is exactly what I'm talking about.  I so love this cutout shape.  I've been wanting to design with it for awhile.  It is a globe representation, though you can view it from many different angles.  Such a gorgeous page!

Sweet Shoppe Goodies!

I bet you know whose page this is?  Yes!  It's my girl, Cindy.  She's just an amazing scrapper.  She's so, so creative and actually, we are collaborating RIGHT NOW on something...well...you know I like to toot my own horn, AMAZING!  So stay tuned because we're just finishing it up.

Look at the depth she gave the suitcase.  Use puffy or bevel styles to achieve this effect.  No pictures?  No worries!  This could make a fun poster, in between transitional page, a title page...I also thought a few of these suitcases could be used as photo spots.  Keep scrolling to see what I mean.

Another idea for these templates I might want to do is scrap them up and journal where I'd like to go in the future.  Maybe even that dream river cruise that costs as much as a car, which is why I never go.  Hehehe...Of course, you can also scrap past vacations and live them over, again.  I love that about scrapbooking.

Just Jamie's Story Teller

See!  No photo and scraps up really fun.  Shrink your pages down and turn them into journal cards for your pages as well.
Awesomeness from JoCee Designs at Sweet Shoppe.

How clever did Felicity use this template?  The limited color palette makes it very easy on the eyes and lends a relaxing feel despite the huge prison in the picture!  Hehehe...

A mix of goodies!

Here's another super alternative idea from Hilary.  Great thinking!

Trixie Scraps

I'm always super flattered when my girls leave so much of the template on their pages.  Jarmila even kept the glasses and camera and recolored them.  That's pretty darn talented and a great idea if the kit you are using comes up short on the themed elements you want to maintain.

What a soft, yet bright summer's day feel of a page.  The picture could be anywhere, any time and it all looks super.

Ilonka Designs

Roxanna is such a star scrapper and what a traveler.  I'm so jealous!  Macchu Picchu!  How fabulous?!  She did a very clever job with this template.  It left her a great space for journaling and she clipped in papers that the van doesn't draw up too much attention.

Rachel Jeffries

Often our elements are put in as representational embellishments.  A suggestion of what you might consider putting on its place.  Below, Rachel from Bits N' Pieces, did exactly that.

Here's how you can use the cases as photo spots, from Jillian.  I also thought you could get a chunkier frame and simply put it over the top, nearly centered and slightly off canter and put your photo or to that way.

If you look at the area I've circled, you'll see some hidden photo spots.  I very rarely design a template without a photo nor a photo spot that is hidden.

If you are not digging the van, you can always delete it entirely and replace it with another picture like Kathy did, below.

Here's another basic, smart way to use the suitcase template.

And what a great idea to use an ice cream truck!

I'm putting all of kits and one bundle on sale.  Most of them are at least 50% off making them only $3-$4. If you look closely at the image, you'll see our, A Reason To Celebrate Bundle in there, too!  I finally got it in the GingerScraps Shop.  It's a doozy of a collection!  I designed it for my niece's wedding, last year and it is huge.  So many papers and elements.  I'd bet you'll never use them all!

Again, take a look at how you could use it without the wedding theme.  It's a very romantic collection.  It also has soothing, natural colors which makes it highly versatile.  There are many elements that include dining essentials so romantic dinner, family, fancy dinner party...would all work.  Prom, dance, love...take a good look and find that you can use this collection for anything at all.  I recommend hitting up our gallery at GingerScraps for fantastic page inspiration.  Keep scrolling for a few examples.

There are THREE packs of coordinating templates, sold separately in the shop.  The page below coordinates with A Reason to Celebrate.  Scroll on to see more further down.

This is our kit Ethereal and it's on sale.

Here's a pretty page using Revel In Retro and its coordinating template set.

Why not pop over to our channel and check out my entire album that I designed for this lovely lady who just had a baby girl.  If you're still on the fence of digital scrapbooking, you should definitely watch the video!

This first page was one where I felt terrible because I scrapped it up in under 10 minutes.  The paper is just pretty, you don't need a lot of other stuff on it.  AND...hehehe...the center of my page is a frame cluster from the collection.  So you see how I did it so fast?  Frame clusters and graphics save you SO much time.

A Reason to Celebrate and template.

I posted this page in a traditional group and it got more likes than any other page, I've ever posted!  Again, guilt!  Hehehe...I's just a couple of elements blown up, a few pieces of paper and two pictures.  That's it!  When you have a collection like this.  One that blends so well together and offers so many goodies, it makes scrapbooking incredibly efficient and fun.

A Reason To Celebrate

I've kept these templates on sale for $1.  Just incase you're looking for a deal and templates that make a great base for your pages.

Here are a few new pages from scrappy sister Caro, using the $1 deal templates.

Really cool stuff from Key lime Digi Design.

If you still have not signed up for our newsletter to get all of the elements and alpha for free from the Pool Side collection, I'll be giving the link out one more week and this freebie will be going in the shop.

Here's a great tip on how to scrap fast.  All I did for this quick page/frickie, was select all of the layers on my template, add a puffy style and some texture.  Boom!  Keep the page as is at 12x12 inches or shrink it up and use it a s a fun cluster frame.

One of my favorite shop to get digital goodies with a Commercial License is Creative Fabrica.  Here's a few things that are hot at the moment and yes, I affiliate for them too.

I love this font!

They also have a nice collection of freebies, too.  Like this one!  You know I'm all about the free stuff which is another reason I like at Creative Fabrica.

Thanks so much for hanging with The Cherry.  I love when you do that.  I hope you'll join us in our scrap-a-licious group.  I've got big plans for September that you might want to be a part of.  There already are all kinds of free collections there, too.  Come on over and check it out.

Happy scrapping!
